Improved Search for Jira allows users to use wildcards at the start of their keywords. This allows users to find results on longer keywords without having to fill in the entire keywords.

Using wildcard search.

  1. Enter your query in the search bar and add "*" to the front of the keyword(s) you want to use a wildcard search on.

  2. A wildcard search will be preformed and the results will be shown.

Always use wildcard search

A Jira administrator can enable wildcard search to always be used during a search. When enabled you no longer need to add '*' at the start of your keywords.

Enabling 'always wildcard search'

  1. Go to the "apps section" of your Jira instance.

  2. Navigate to "Configure" under "Improved Search".

  3. Click on 'Always use wildcard search'.
